Plein Air Painting

I'm very happy with how much I learned in Plein Air painting this semester. I decided I would put up all of my paintings together. Thankfully my teacher requested a digital copy of these so it gave me motivation to compile these all together sooner. I tried to order them from the beginning to the end of the class. I still would like to be much much better at this but it's a start. Some things I want to work on: color relationships, clear foreground against soft background, creating a focal point, experimenting with high and low contrast, and more architecture. I'm going to keep working hard and getting better!

Portfolio

This is the first version of my portfolio for my review today. Putting this together made me feel really good about how much improvement I've made. Much of that improvement was within the past year. I'm going to keep improving by leaps and bounds and kicking ass this next year. A big thanks to all my friends for pushing me to do more!

Plein Air Oi

I took plein air painting this semester. It was a challenging class. This is one of my better paintings. It was not as easy as I thought it would be but my knowledge of painting color and sketching environments did help. It was maddening at times, but I'm glad I feel I learned a lot.

Fun Apple Practice

I'm sorry to say that I have a lot more drawings and fun things I've been working on but I don't have a proper scanner at the moment. At least I can show off some fun practice I had with my oil paint. I had plenty of colors left over from plein air painting today and thought that I would have some more fun and use them to paint this apple. The apple has been sitting in my room for a week or two because it's colors are so beautiful I knew I would have to paint it eventually. Thought this might make a good gift for the parents of a young child and thus I added "A is for Apple". It might also make a good gift to a grade school teacher.

Kristine

I drew Kristine last time the PMC got together to cafe sketch. I think the top one captures her likeness the best.

Digital Illustration Project 1

My first project for digital illustration. I would still like to tweak it some more, but I'm not totally sure what else I should do. I'm going to give it a break for now. Any suggestions?

A facebook friend pointed out the raptors in the 3rd Jurassic park are a little too concerned about their eggs.

Hands Practice

I'm taking Heads and Hands this semester so I figured I'd get some early practice in. Now I'm sure we're not doing cartoon hands but I think they still help to understand the structure. Here's the links to site my sources:http://www.freewebs.com/gnomak/Milt_Hands-1.jpg, http://www.freewebs.com/gnomak/Milt_Hands-2.jpg There's still a few more hands from that link I have to finish, but I thought I'd post what I have for now.

Glazing in Corel Painter

I recently got Corel Painter. I love how well it imitates real media. My favorite method of painting is glazing with oils. I wanted to try it out in a self portrait. I think this gal has a bit more attitude and pizazz than I have.

Painting Final

I had worked on another painting and almost finished it but it was aweful. I would've never put it in my portfolio. This one is much better if a little rushed. Just have to let it dry glaze the color and tweak some parts and I'm done!

Senile Cats

I think my cat is going senile. While looking up symptoms I came across that some cats get "trapped" in corners. Poor things are to old to figure out just to turn around. My cat isn't doing that yest but I found the idea both sad and humorous.

Traditional Illustration Project #2

I had to make an illustration about time. It's intended as an advertisement for a watch. First I thought of my audience. I decided to make an illustration for a womens magazine perhaps cooking or something that mothers would read. I thought a girl playing dress up is a good concept since it would show what's to come in this girls future. I also thought it would make the watch look good since the child believes it worthy of being jewelry.

Self Portrait w/Lemon

It is complete! I wish the proportions were perfect but that's probably what I spent the most amount of time on. I had to move on I still have plenty more work to get done.
